FAQ

What mediums do you use?
Digitally, I use Adobe Photoshop CS 2 and Open Canvas 3.0. I use a Wacom Graphite CTE-430 with a standard stylus. Traditionally, I use graphite of various values, India Ink (wash), Derwent Watercolor Pencils, Faber Castell Ink Pens, Prismacolor Pencils & Markers, Reeves Watercolor, Savoir Faire Gouache, Frisket and iTunes.

What Training have you had?
As of Winter 2009, I took my very first "art" class: Illustration, directed by Marc Dennis. I've never taken any other classes; not in High School or in College at any level. Most of my learning has come from personal advise from some great artists that are both my friends and mentors: Minho, "Divy", Tara, and Usagi. Some of these people I know in person, and some I don't.

Where do you get your ideas?
Recently most of my ideas have been based off of class assignments or requests from friends IRL. A vast majority of my art was created as a gift for someone else or has been commission work. A small portion of my artwork relates to my short stories or my online web-comic.

What is an "art-trade" and will you trade with me?
An "art-trade" is something a lot of online mostly anime-style artists do amongst themselves. Basically each artist makes a request of the other artist, often drawing each other's characters, or canon characters. I only trade with friends, and they know who they are! I do not under any circumstances honor random requests or demands.

Where does your pen name come from? And your website?
Kitsunedajfox has been my pen name (mostly on DeviantART) for the past 7 years as of January 2009. The first part "kitsune" means fox in Japanese, "da" is slang for "the," "j" is short for Japanese and fox means.. well, fox. My pen name translates to "Fox the Japanese Fox." At the time of creation, I was in love with Japanese White Snow Foxes. (They are beautiful creatures!) My website title "Shantkitty" was inspired by my own cat, Tifa. She is full of regal attitude. It was a spur of the moment decision for me.

What is your favorite subject matter to draw?
Although I've grown out of watching anime, I think the style is beautiful and graceful and it's what I draw best. I love to draw people, especially historically or fantasy themed. My least subjects are landscapes, objects, and studies. I think they lack action and intrigue.
